HO HOn3 WATER COLUMN KIT Suitable for watering 1880s 1890s or later locos with low tender. McGowan patent - Poage water column is a great trackside detail for both standard and narrow gauge. These were used to supply water to a locomotive tender much as a water tank with spout. A remote tank had underground pipes to the water column with a valve in the base of the column about 4-6' down to help prevent freezing. The control lever worked the valve in the base. Typical locations were on the mainline and passing tracks near a station or around locomotive servicing facilities, turntables, roundhouses, etc.
The kit features 4 cast Britannia metal parts and a precut wood base. This is a craftsman kit requiring some simple clean-up of the parts and careful positioning and gluing/painting of the parts. Though a craftsman kit, it is a god introduction to this sort of kit and is suitable for the beginner with some modeling skills and attention to detail. The little styrene bail on the spout holding the lever down is the only tricky item. The column height can be set to suit your locos and terrain before gluing and painting. Note the position of the column spout in the picture. The spout should not be positioned over the wood deck since dripping water would rot the deck. HO Kit - $6.95 + S&H Built and painted as in picture $15.95 + S&H (Special order)
