NEW ! - HO/HOn3 Sellers Turntable kit
HO -HOn3 Sellers turntable kit - Price $94.95 + S&H This model represents a generic 60' Sellers turntable from the 1885 - 1900 period. Many were used into the mid 20th century. A few still exist! The Sellers patent cast iron turntable was intended to be a cheap and durable turntable turntable that could be erected in most locations w/o the help of skilled labor. The turntable was held together with a minimum of pins, wedges, nuts and bolts. The "centre box" housed a unique tapered roller bearing and balancing pivot allowing the bridge to be pivoted with little effort. The catalog shows a cobblestone and cut stone pit but there were a variety of pit constructions ranging from a simple hole scooped in the ground to very elaborate cobblestone and brick. Many railroads, both US and foreign used these turntables. This was a very common turntable that is seldom modeled. The V&T, DSP&P, EBT, Ma&Pa, Prattsburg RR, BLW, and many many others too numerous to mention here used the Sellers turntable. Since there were many slight variations of the Sellers turntable the model is a generic version with a bridge very similar to the Ma&Pa Delta Pa. turntable now at the St. Louis Transportation Museum. The models pit has a cobblestone floor as in the catalog with a concrete pit wall. One could add brick paper o the wall to have the appearance of a brick pit wall.
Maryland & Pennsylvania RR modelers will find this turntable fairly close to the turntable that was at Delta Pennsylvania and only need to slightly modify the pit removing the curb and cobblestone floor.
The kit features a one piece cast Hydrocal(TM) pit, highly detailed spincast Britannia metal and resin parts, laser cut wood pit cap and other carefully crafted wood and metal parts. See list of parts below. Please note that the pictures do not show the laser cut pit cap in place. This is not a "shake the box" kit and requires careful attention to detail and craftsmanship. it is probably suitable for an advanced modeler or an intermediate modeler with some solid experience with craftsman kits. You will need to supply the paint/stain, glue, hook-up wire, etc. Also available is a simple motor drive kit for the HO/HOn3 Sellers turntable.
